WASHINGTON, D.C. – After being denied entry to perform congressional oversight at the Treasury Department yesterday, Rep. LaMonica McIver (NJ-10) addressed a crowd of hundreds of Americans, calling out Elon Musk’s power grab and calling on Senate Democrats to “shut down the Senate” and hold the line in blocking Donald Trump’s dangerous cabinet nominations.
“I came here with one simple message, just like you all: We will not take this shit from Donald Trump and Elon Musk. We want you to know we came here for an oversight visit at the building behind us, and they told us we had to have an appointment for our oversight visit. So let’s let them know loud and clear to let us in,” said Rep. McIver “Donald Trump thinks that he is a dictator and we are going to prove him wrong…I want Donald Trump to know this Jersey girl means business.”
Congressional Democrats convened at the U.S. Treasury Department on Tuesday following news that Musk and his team have been granted access to the sensitive data of millions of Americans, including Social Security and tax information.
Contrary to what the members were told at the doors of the Treasury, congressional oversight such as this is an “implicit constitutional power of Congress.”
